What is a digital transfer (DTF)?

A digital transfer, or DTF (Direct to Film), is printed with solvent ink onto film and applied to fabric with a heat press. It works well on t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, polos, long sleeves, team uniforms with names and numbers, caps, hats, tote bags, and polyester materials, and is well suited to dimensional or multi-color designs.

Is DTF better than screen printing?

Neither is universally better — it depends on the order. Screen printing produces durable, wash-resistant results and becomes more economical on larger orders despite higher upfront setup costs. DTF excels at intricate details, gradients, and small text, requires no per-color screens, and generates less waste, though it costs more per unit at high volume. The right choice depends on order size, material, design complexity, and budget.

What is the difference between digital transfer and screen printing?

Screen printing pushes ink through a mesh screen for each color and becomes more cost-effective on larger orders with fewer colors.
